Testing the Recalled Pieps DSP Sport and DSP Pro Avalanche Transceivers

Black Diamond Equipment announced a voluntary recall of most Black Diamond and Pieps avalanche transceivers in 2022. This page explains how to test the Pieps DSP Sport and DSP Pro transceivers. Learn more about the recall.

Testing

  1. Move the slider to the search SEARCH position.
  2. Wait for the display of the Software Version and Self Check Result.
  3. Make sure the SEARCH symbol ("--") appears on the display.
  4. Move the slider until it locks into the SEND position.
  5. Make sure the SEND symbol ("X") appears on the display.
  6. Move the slider to the OFF position.
  7. Make sure that beacon turns off.Check that the display and control LED (on the top of device) are turned off.
  8. If switching between the modes is not possible, contact Black Diamond/Pieps.

The "release tab" on some DSP Pro and DSP Sport transceivers can fail which will allow the Off/Send/Search switch to move to the Off position. Read the details here.
