Ortovox 3+ avalanche transceivers that are running software version 2.1 are being recalled due to a software error. This software problem can result in the pause between the transceiver's "beeps" being lengthened by a few milliseconds which can make it more difficult for searching transceivers to find the 3+.
This problem only exists in version 2.1. Earlier versions (i.e., 1.1 and 2.0) do not have this problem, although it is wise to upgrade to the latest version anyway. Learn how to display the Ortovox 3+ version number.
Ortovox is offering free upgrades from software version 2.1 to version 2.2 which fixes this problem. You must send your transceiver to Ortovox to have the new software installed (that's a reminder of the benefit of buying a transceiver that you can upgrade yourself). Although your transceiver will be sent to Germany (Ortovox pays the postage), the process is very fast and straight-forward. Read more details about the recall.
Note that Ortovox 3+ transceivers that were manufactured between October 17, 2012 and December 5, 2012 were recalled several years ago. Read the details about that recall.
Ortovox released another software update for the 3+ in June 2020.
